Letter from Sherry Hawley concerning the passing
of Neva Burkham Mason

My heart is burdened and carries a heavy weight today as I share with you the sad news of a wonderful
classmate and precious sole that I dearly thought a lot of and will miss her dearly and her sweet caring e-mails.

Neva had gone in for rectal cancer surgery on Jan 14.  She was very upbeat and positive about the surgery.
Neva was diabetic and she had complications.

A very aggressive infection took over and began to cause problems.  At first the doctor wasn’t too concerned
because diabetic patients often have infections, but by Midnight on Tuesday it was so bad the doctor took Neva back to surgery
and she had two cardiac arrests while on the table.  The doctor was concern about her neurological functions and also that the
infection was so aggressive that it had attacked muscle tissue and other organs which would have had to have been removed.

Neva when to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 17, 2008

Neva was a loving sweet and caring precious sole.  Pat Manny Brooks, Anita Stephens Hinton and myself  met with
Neva in November when she was in Amarillo.  We had a wonderful time visiting and telling old stories and trying to remember
teachers names.  It was a wonderful visit for the 4 of us.  Neva even mentioned retiring and moving back to Amarillo and we all
decided we could have some more great times together.  The four of us were in band together and we were all a close knit group.

We lost a wonderful special loving friend.

I know many of you feel the same as I do, because Neva was a wonderful person.

I talked with Neva’s brother, Sandy Burkham, and he said that if anyone wanted to call and talk to him they
are surely welcome to do so.  His cell Number is 903-638-3136.

His e-mail address is:  sjburkham@ peoplepc.com.

His mailing address is:  195 Private Road 5551  10A
Alba, TX  75410

Neva’s Memorial service is Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Noon

At Forest Lawn in Glendale at the Little Church of the Flowers.
